OBC NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS!
Annual Congregational Meeting- Sunday, Jan. 29- All members are urged to attend this very important meeting to elect new officers and to receive annual reports from various groups and committees. The meeting will be held after regular church service. Prior to business, stuffed potato lunch will be served by the youth as part of their fund-raising activities. In the past few years, only a few members have attended these meetings. We'd like to have better attendance this time. Non-members and guests are also encouraged to attend (but they cannot vote).

Superbowl Sunday, Feb. 5 -The youth are invited to a Superbowl party at the Manse with Pastor Jon, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM (through half-time). Watch the game and the great commercials, have some snacks, and learn more about the summer trip to the Appalachian Mountains in July. Parents are encouraged to learn about this trip by showing up, 5:30 to 6:30 PM.

New Member!- Ryan Brucoli was baptized by Pastor Jon and accepted by the elders and congregation as member of our church on December 18, 2011. Congratulations and welcome to OBC, Ryan!

New Members!- New members were received at OBC on November 13. They are Ray Klein, Daniele Harmon, Sandra Sanchara, and Cynthia Johnson. We welcome you to OBC!

OBC Hosts the Presbytery of the Palisades- The annual Presbytery meeting was co-hosted together with the Mideast Evangelical Church of Jersey City and held at OBC's parlor, Brett Hall, and Sanctuary on November 15. Over 200 people were present. Thanks to all members who helped out in the preparation of our facilities, serving the food, coordinating the programme, and in welcoming the attendees.

One Year at OBC!- Pastor Jon got a surprise on Sunday, Nov 20 when a regular coffee hour turned into an anniversary celebration honoring him after one year of fruitful ministry at OBC. It was organized by Sue Kornutick and the pastoral search committee who had worked hard to find The Rev. Jon Brown for OBC. We are indeed blessed to have him!

Turkey Lunch- A sumptuous turkey lunch (more like "feast") was prepared by the Deacons on December 4 and held in the parlor after service. An extended celebration of Thanksgiving, food was plentiful. Donations from the hungry congregation raised $320 and a basketfull of canned food which will be used by the Deacons for the Food Pantry, our outreach program which provides supplementary food to the needy in our community..

Bible Study and Book Group- "Spirituality on Tap"- This new group of adults will meet at Trinity Restaurant in Hoboken at least once a month. Themes of spirituality and faith will be explored by the group led by Pastor Jon. The book "Listening for the Heartbeat of God" by Phillip Newell will be used as reference. Interested OBC members and friends are welcome to join.

New Offering Envelopes- Starting next month 2012, members are urged to use the 2012 envelopes. You may pick them up from a table in the sanctuary. If you don't find the box with your name on it, please let any church officer know so that a box can be prepared for you. Toss out any remaining 2011 envelopes, otherwise bursing will be subject to errors because of the new numbering system..

Adult Bible Study!- The Bible study group for adults regularly meets every Sunday at 9:30 AM in the parlor. All members and guests interested in nurturing their faith are encouraged to join this discussion group which is led by Pastor Jon.

Church Membership Info- We need to update the membership information on all our church members and guests. Please complete the forms that are being inserted in the Sunday bulletins and submit to the church office or fold then drop on the offertory plates.

Hospitality Committee - Volunteers are needed to join the new Hospitality Committee which aims to encourage the congregation to stay and socialize after worship services, through more coffee hours and other gatherings. We hope that this would also get folks more involved in OBC's activities.

Food Pantry - The OBC Food Pantry continues to get support from donors, such as ShopRite and the Food Bank of NJ, due to our faithful commitment to such outreach in the community. Lately, we have provided food at a rate of almost 200 people per month. But we need more volunteers during food pickup days (usually, the 2nd Saturday of each month) and distribution days (last Saturday of each month). Please see Betsy Kishlansky or any deacon to volunteer. Middle or high school youth needing community service hours are welcome to help. Please contact the church office to register.

"This Week at OBC"- This news page will be updated every week and can be accessed from the homepage of this website. Just click on the link below the "Welcome" message. Highlights of the past week and the coming week are briefly presented. For any questions or comments/suggestions, please contact Pastor Jon.
